The first mobility period of the EVS project “Say YES to change” has ended. It lasted from the 15th of March till the 11th of June 2019. The two volunteers we had, Merve Ashar and Ahmet Subashi, were sent from our Turkish partner the PI Youth Association from Izmir.
During the second half of their EVS they continued with the workshops, the Turkish lessons and the activities with the children in the center.
On the 9th of May Ahmet held a workshop regarding the Turkish culture. He presented the culture, customs and some famous Turkish sights. We could see the great similarities between the Turkish and the Roma culture and traditions as most of the Roma are Muslims and some of them have Turkish origin.
On the 16th and 23rd of May Merve talked about Social media management, especially about Facebook which is the most used among the people here. Her lecture about creating business or other Facebook groups and pages and how to manage them was very helpful for the young Roma who visited the workshop.
Merve and Ahmet also had their personal project workhops. They presented them on the 30th and 31st of May. Ahmet talked about his passion for rock climbing sharing tips for the equiopment, tipes of climbing and safety messures. Merve presented her Yoga experience regarding the benefits of practicing Yoga and of course she presented some moves.
During May both Merve and Ahmet continued the Turkish language lessons and the last one was on the 28th of May. Participants regreted the end of the lessons with hope that some day they will continue.
We thank Merve and Ahmet for their effort regarding the workshops and the Turkish lessons which helped in great deal to achieve some of the project goals.
Now we have David and Juan Jesus from Spain to continue the activities. Stay tuned.
