The Association for Roma Community Development “Sumnal” as part of the key action 1 from the Erasmus + programme, from 13-18 September 2021 realized the project “Antigypsyism and Digital Media”.
The project is implemented with support by the National agency for European educational programmes and mobility of North Macedonia, co-financed by the Europen Union.
The aim of the project is to introduce young people to the term “antigypsyism”, what it means, its consequences and ways of prevention, with an emphasis on digital media as the most widely known distributor of news and information used by young people.
Specific objectives of the project were:
- Introduction to the term “antigypsyism”, ways to prevent and combat it;
- Recognizing fake news on digital media with an emphasis on social networks as a way to fight “antigypsyism”, and thus increase digital skills among youth workers and young people;
- Promoting the inclusion of people with fewer opportunities, with an emphasis on Roma and other minorities, migrants and refugees;
- Strengthening and developing the skills of youth workers in order to enable them to educate young people on how to successfully combat discrimination, stereotypes and hate speech.
The project activities were implemented in hotel “Kapri” – Bitola, with participants from North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain, Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania.
