Six young volunteers from the Association for Roma Community Development “Sumnal” took part in the Youth Mobility “Roma and non-Roma for a Better Future” that happened in Niska Banja, Serbia from 16-24 August 2021. The project is part of the Erasmus + programme co-financed by the European Union.
During this youth mobility, 24 young from Italy, North Macedonia, Slovenia, and Serbia got the chance to form themselves into individuals who consciously help each other and are aware of their human rights, fundamental principles of democratic participation, issues and questions of social responsibility and volunteering activities. In the end, these young should be active participants in their own country with promoting democratic and social participation on a broader front.
The topics they worked on during exchange are: human rights, social participation, activity, volunteering, democratic way of thinking, democracy, disadvantaged social layers, European Union, rights, obligations, equality interest enforcing, representing interests.
This project helped our volunteers from the Roma community to raise their awareness on the topics and spread democratic and social participation among their local peers and family, thus making a change and progress towards breaking the discrimination and stereotypes that unfortunately still prevail towards the Roma.
After their return, the volunteers together with our president, held a workshop to share their knowledge, experience and to motivate the other young Roma to participate in the activities provided by the Erasmus + programme and our NGO.
